Varsity VCs urged to ensure merit

Governor warns against delay in administrative matters

LAHORE:

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar has said that all vice chancellors appointed in educational institutions were hired on merit. “When we appoint VCs, we expect them to ensure meritocracy in their respective universities.”

He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony held in King Edward Medical University on Wednesday. KEMU VC Khalid Masood Gondal, Pro VC Ejaz Hussain, Registrar Asghar Naqi, Bilqees Shabbir, Saira Afzal, Saqib Saeed, Asad Aslam Khan and other officials were present on the occasion.

He stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government was leading by example and making efforts to ensure meritocracy and transparency in institutions.

He claimed that previous governments had destroyed national institutions. “So we will not tolerate anything that violates merit and transparency. We have to strengthen our national institutions to make the country stronger.”

He remarked that, unfortunately, certain bureaucrats halted the administrative procedures of universities.

He maintained that inordinate delay will no longer be tolerated in administrative procedures of universities because it negatively affected their performance. “We have finalised a policy that the files regarding universities will be processed in the administrative department within 10 working days.”
