Retired deputy registrar of university injured in attack

FAISALABAD:

A former deputy registrar of a university was allegedly critically injured in an armed attack by a brother of a deputy superintendent of police and his accomplices.

As per sources, the prime suspect, Samiullah Khan Niazi, was accused of demanding extortion money from retired deputy registrar of Agricultural University Dr Abdul Hafeez.

When he refused to pay, the suspect along with his accomplices forcibly entered his house and shot him. Resultantly, Dr Abdul Hafeez was severely injured and was shifted to Allied Hospital for treatment. Following the shooting incident, Ghulam Muhammadabad police registered a case against six accused including the DSP on the request of the victim’s son, Mohammad Omar.

A source said citing the complainant that Samiullah, a resident of Tariq Town on Daewoo Road which falls within the jurisdiction of Ghulam Muhammadabad Police Station, demanded extortion money from members of the housing society.

The source said Dr Abdul Hafeez Gujjar had obtained a protective order from a court to restrain the official and his brother from harming him.

On the other hand, DSP Nasrullah Niazi said he was not involved in any wrongdoing.
