Havelian-Thakot highway may open before Eid

Necessary arrangements should be made for fire fighting and recovery of vehicles

ISLAMABAD:

The under-construction Havelian-Thakot highway may be opened for traffic before Eidul Azha next week.

National Highway Authority (NHA) Chairman Captain (retired) Sikander Qayyum visited the project site on Friday to review progress on the project.

Qayyum directed officials to coordinate with the National Highways and Motorways Police (NHMP) to open the road for traffic before Eid.

He added that the tunnels located on the highway shall be made bright. Moreover, he said that staff for maintaining the tunnel and operating toll plazas shall be arranged immediately.

Highway dept to install 3 railway barriers

In this regard, Qayyum asked the concerned general manager to visit the service areas along the highway with potential operators to check if all arrangements are complete.

In case of an accident on the highway, he said that necessary arrangements should be made for fire fighting and recovery of vehicles before the highway is opened.
