ISLAMABAD:

The apex civic authorities of the federal capital on Thursday said that a vast majority of the construction work on the Burma Bridge over the Korang River has been completed while a two-week deadline has been set to complete the remaining work.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

The authority, which has been rebuilding the heavily-damaged bridge on Lehtrar Road, said that 80 per cent of the construction work on the project has been completed, including deck slabs placement and the concrete process. Furthermore, 70 per cent of protection work on the project has also been completed. Currently, work is progressing on the approach slab of the bridge which is expected to be completed shortly.

The authority has instructed the contractor to complete all aspects of the bridge within the next two weeks.

To ensure effective monitoring of projects so that they are completed in the stipulated time, the CDA said that they have installed an online monitoring mechanism on the project, claiming that it helped speed up the pace of work on the project.

Officials added that the construction of the Burma Bridge had been stalled for several years, due to which residents of the surrounding areas and those commuters who use the Lehtrar Road, were facing immense difficulties. The poor state of the bridge meant that there were frequent traffic jams on either side of the bridge. Realising the importance of the project, the authority allocated funds for the repair of the bridge.

The bridge connects parts of Ghauri Town with Burma Town and other parts of Tarlai Colony.
