RAWALPINDI:

The first-ever Information Technology (IT) Park in Rawalpindi is expected to be completed in the community centre in Chamanzar Colony over the next eight months.

Once complete, it will give a boost to indigenous information and communication technology development and provide opportunities to professionals and students.

This was disclosed by officials of the Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation (RMC) on Tuesday, adding that the park is being built over the four Kanal centre for Rs65 million - of which Rs30 million will be spent on building the park while the Punjab government has provided an additional grant of Rs35 million for developing the required infrastructure and paraphernalia for the IT Park.

The IT Park, officials said, is expected to be completed and become functional in the next six to eight months.

Once complete, it will sport office space with backup power, internet and other facilities required by students and professional software developers.

Users will be able to rent space in the IT Park for Rs5,000 for the day shift and Rs10,000 for each night shift.

An IT Guideline Department will also be set up at the facility to help young businesspeople.

The plaza will sport fast food outlets, restaurants, washrooms, waiting areas and green lawns. Once the IT Park becomes functional, the city authorities will build a road to link it with the Murree Road - the main artery of the city.
