Taapsee Pannu exposes faults in Kangana Ranaut’s nepotism rant

The 'Pink' star shared an old video of Ranaut supporting star kids

Taapsee Pannu has chimed in with a befitting take on the nepotism debate ignited by actor Kangana Ranaut, reported Hindustan Times.

Pannu, who has been on the receiving end of the actor’s scathing comments in recent days, following Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, shared a video of her from 2010 defending nepotism. Herein, Ranaut terms it ‘the quota system’.

In the video, posted to Twitter by journalist Anna Vetticad, Ranaut seems to be siding with star kids, at one point saying that she herself has benefitted from the ‘quota system’ and therefore, does not hold star kids’ lineage against them.

“My father is a businessman, my mother is a teacher, my grandfather is an IAS officer and my great-grandfather is a freedom fighter… When I was giving my pre-medical entrance test, I had a particular quota for me because I come from this particular family,” she says in the snippet. “How I look at star children is that they have 30% quota, how I had. I am just trying to come into their territory. If somebody else tried to give the pre-medical test, they wouldn’t get that percentage of quota. This is how I look at it.”

Vetticad herself tweeted that she had “hesitated to bring this up since I don’t want a discussion on nepotism derailed and I don’t want to make this about myself.” But she was left with no choice after Ranaut’s team circulated another snippet from the same interview to shame her.

Sharing the video on her own Twitter, Pink star Pannu wrote, “Sara kasoor yeh quota system ka hai! (The quota system is to be blamed for this)! All good now in our ‘territory’ or their ‘territory’. Matlab jiski bhi hai aap samajh jao yaar (Whoever the ‘territory’ belongs to, please understand for yourself).”

Earlier this week, Ranaut had slammed Pannu and Swara Bhasker, calling them ‘needy outsiders’ who denied the existence of nepotism and tried to be in Karan Johar’s good books.
