Robber killed by police was an Afghan

The pillion rider fell while the driver managed to ride away

RAWALPINDI:

A robber, who had been killed in a shootout with the Rawalpindi police, was identified as an Afghan national, a police spokesperson said on Tuesday. The deceased was a resident of the Dhoke Hassu area of Rawalpindi and was wanted in several cases of robberies reported at four different police stations, officials said. Islamabad resident Waqas Ahmed had told police that he had withdrawn Rs2 million in three packets from a local bank in Sector I-9 of Islamabad. As he exited the financial building, two armed motorcyclists intercepted him and robbed him at gunpoint. Police said that the suspects then fled, entering Rawalpindi and the remits of Pirwadhai police station, through the IJP Road. However, the Rawalpindi police confronted the robbers there. In their attempt to flee, the motorcyclists rammed their vehicle into a service station. As a result, the pillion rider fell while the driver managed to ride away. The fallen suspect, however, kept firing at the police. Pursuing officers retaliated, killing the suspect. Later, while examining documents obtained from him, police learnt that the deceased was an Afghan national called Tahir Khan.
