Minister stresses cotton hedging
Cotton hedging can be an alternative source of marketing for providing a level playing field and facilitating a smooth flow of national and international trading in cotton, said Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam. Chairing a meeting on cotton with officials from the Pakistan Mercantile Exchange Limited (PMEX) on Monday, the minister added that hedge trading was a special segment of trade and played a vital role in enhancing the trading potential of other agriculture commodities as well. During the meeting PMEX Managing Director Ejaz Shah discussed the cotton hedging proposal in detail with the minister and informed him that hedge trading provided a cover against the risk of fluctuations in price by facilitating smooth flow of trading in cotton.
