Man allegedly tortured to death by cops

They rushed him to Khewra Civil Hospital but he died

PIND DADAN KHAN:

A man has allegedly been beaten to death by police for not stopping at a checkpoint, his family have claimed.

Family, neighbours and members of the closely-knit rural community of Khewra, staged a protest against the alleged extra-judicial killing of 55-year-old Muhammad Sibtain.

They blocked the Grand Trunk (GT) Road for hours and refused to budge until the rogue cops from the Khewra police station are brought to justice. The crowd finally dispersed when a senior police officer of the area, DSP Salem Khattak convinced them that the matter will be investigated on merit.

According to Sibtain’s family, he was returning from Choasaiden Shah on a motorbike along with his cousin Nadeem when he had been stopped by the Khewra police at a check post on a hill.

The two motorcyclists, however, did not stop at the check post. Police officers started chasing them and finally caught up with them at a house. Their relatives claiomed that after having arresting them, police started brutally beating them, causing Sibtain’s death.

Meanwhile, police sources told The Express Tribune that Sibtain had a pre-existing heart condition and became unwell. They rushed him to Khewra Civil Hospital but he died.
