Army team rescues 17 people trapped under AJK wedding hall debris

The Army Urban and Research team evacuated at least 17 stranded people from debris of a five-storey building that caved-in in Chakswari town of Mirpur district in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Friday.
The army rescue teams were dispatched from Rawalpindi to aid the civil administration in carrying out relief work, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Realtions (ISPR) said.
The relief operation was ongoing till filing of the story.
At least nine people out of 30 present in the multi-storeyed marriage hall sustained critical injuries after the building collapsed during renovation work, officials said.
Rescue teams belonging to the Pakistan Army – headed by Brigadier Saeed and Brigadier Irfan – teams of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), Rescue 1122, civil defence, local volunteers and police immediately rushed the site to join the relief works to rescue the victims.
The injured were shifted to the local as well as Mirpur Divisional Headquarter hospital.
The owner of the ill-fated building, identified as Chaudhry Nadeem Roopayal is also among the injured.
