‘Kandhkot-Ghotki bridge labourers unsafe’

SSP raises alarm over presence of criminal gangs in the area

SUKKUR:

The construction of Kandhkot-Ghotki bridge- being built at a cost of Rs3 billion- may face disruptions due to the presence of criminal gangs in the area, revealed Kandhkot-Kashmore SSP Asad Raza during a meeting on Tuesday.

These criminal gangs put the security and safety of workers constructing the bridge at risk, he pointed out, adding, however, that the police would make all-out efforts for ensuring the security of the construction staff.

Stating that the bridge would not just reduce the travelling time for commuters journeying between Kandhkot and Sukkur but also contribute to increasing economic activity in the area, the SSP stressed the need to take measures for tackling security threats posed by the presence of criminal elements near it.

At this, Kashmore-Kandhkot deputy commissioner Munawar Mithani, who was chairing the meeting, directed the SSP to devise a security plan regarding the issue and set up a police picket in the area.

He further directed the assistant commissioner to hold meetings with land owners and resolve any disputes regarding the utlisation of land for the bridge's construction at the earliest possible.
