Police arrest 6,446 in six months
Lahore police’s operations wing claimed to have arrested as many as 6,446 proclaimed offenders (PO), court absconders and targeted offenders (TO) during the first six months of this year. Lahore DIG Operations Ashfaq Ahmad Khan said that out of the 6,446 offenders, as many as 1,886 were POs, whereas 2,282 were TOs and 2,278 were court absconders. The DIG said Lahore police had devised a special strategy to arrest the POs as most of them had been found involved in heinous crimes, including illegal possession of weapons, murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping for ransom, extortion and drug pushing. A police spokesperson highlighted that 174 special teams had been constituted at the police station level to arrest the POs and TOs. He added that the arrests made by the operations wing contributed significantly in controlling heinous crimes in the city.
