Iqbal approaches NAB against PM in Narowal case
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader on Tuesday approached the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against Prime Minister Imran Khan for “neglecting” the Narowal Sports City Complex and causing “loss” worth billions of rupees to it.
In a letter to the national-graft buster, Iqbal stated that the premier had stopped the release of remaining funds for the project after assuming office.
He alleged that “PM Imran and his accomplices” had been guilty of “misuse of authority” to sabotage a national project through “willful default” and “criminal breach of trust” on political grounds.
He requested the NAB to register a case against the prime minster and his associates for causing a “willful loss” to the national project and make them personally liable for any escalation in cost with respect to the completion of the project.
The PML-N leader maintained that the project was launched in 2009, while his party came to power in 2013.
He said that for the last two years, the project had been abandoned with major damages to the facilities already constructed.
Iqbal noted that Astroturf (artificial grass) and Athletic field track imported worth millions of rupees had not been installed in time and wasted.
“Release of remaining Rs400 million to complete the project, from total approved cost of Rs2.9 billion of which 86% funds have been spent, was withheld causing work to stop and contractors to demobilise,” the letter said.
Iqbal observed that now additional billions of rupees needed to be spent in remobilisation and cost escalation heads in order to complete the project.
