Union between teacher, student lands in court
The issue of a woman, who had changed into a man and then married her teenaged student, has landed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench.
Asma Bibi, who claims to have changed her gender to that of a man, had married her 16-year-old student, N*.
The teenager’s father, however, had approached the court, urging it to revoke the union. The court has approved the petition and will hear it later this week on July 15.
The court has issued summons to the couple as well as other respondents in the case.
Raja Amjad Janjua, the counsel for the teenaged girl’s father, claimed in a video message that the defendant had lived in the teenaged girl’s house for three years. During this time, she seduced and convinced the minor to marry her.
Suspecting her ill intentions, the girl's parents had thrown Asma out of their home.
Janjua added that the defendant has now claimed to have changed her gender after undergoing a sex reassignment surgery in Lahore and later renamed herself as Ali Akash. Janjua claimed the transition is impossible in Pakistan.
He went on to say that the couple allegedly solemnised their marriage in February.
