TDCP will lease recreational vehicle to tourists

RAWALPINDI:

The Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) has plans to develop a special tourist vehicle, popularly known as caravan or campervans.

In what is being claimed as the first locally produced recreational vehicle (RV), it has been prepared on an experimental basis as per European designs. Its primary users will be tourists who can lease the vehicles to travel around the province, Punjab Chief Minister’s Advisor on Tourism Asif Mehmood told The Express Tribune.

These vehicles will sport a small kitchen, a washroom, beds, seating arrangement, the adviser said, adding that they aim to make it as comfortable as a “small home” on wheels.

Once the pilot project proves successful, the next phase will see the corporation prepare five more caravans, he said, adding that their numbers can go up based on public response.

These RVs will be rented out to visitors complete with drivers. These drivers will employees of the TDCP. However, on presentation of valid guarantees, individuals or groups may also hire these vehicles without drivers for up to four days.

Apart from plying visitors to different tourist spots, these multi-purpose vehicles can also be used for camping.

Mehmood said later, they may also consider extending it to popular tourist destinations in other regions of the country.
