Court rejects ‘gangster’s’ bail plea

The court rejected the bail plea and ordered the relevant anti-terrorism court to complete the trials

The Sindh High Court rejected on Monday the bail plea of an alleged gangster, said to be a close associate of Lyari gang war leader Uzair Baloch, in a case pertaining to the murder of SHO Fawad Khan.

A two-member bench, comprising Justice Abdul Maalik Gaddi and Justice Mrs Kausar Sultana Hussain, was hearing the plea filed by Ghaffar alias Mama.

The special public prosecutor maintained that 55 terrorists, including Uzair, Habib Baloch, Zafar Baloch, Ghaffar and Sheeraz Comrade, attacked police parties during the Lyari operation, killing 10 police officials and injuring several others.

The defence lawyer claimed Ghaffar was arrested in 2012 and the case had been facing delays for eight years. He added that Uzair was arrested in 2016, after which he faced a military trial and now the hearings of pending cases against him had been restored.

The court remarked that Ghaffar could not be released on bail because strong evidence of his involvement in terrorist activities had been presented before the court.

The court rejected the bail plea and ordered the relevant anti-terrorism court to complete the trials of cases against Lyari gangsters soon.
