Now, the world is no stranger to Zoya Akhtar’s capabilities as a director. She has showcased her versatility and sheer genius with films like Luck By Chance, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Dil Dhadakne Do and Gully Boy.
Not just that, she has proved herself at the box office, in terms of numbers too. Gully Boy, for instance, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, created history at the Filmfare Awards by winning 13 trophies in one night.
And now, it seems like Akhtar and Singh may join hands for yet another interesting project, a gangster drama. Also, as per rumours, Katrina Kaif might be part of this as well, reported Filmfare.
A source close to the film told a leading daily, “Zoya has got the rights of Martin Scorsese's gritty thriller The Departed. The film she is planning will be along the same lines and will explore the gritty world of the underbelly that runs in the country. Although it will be a completely new space for the film-maker, she is confident about it after pulling off Gully Boy.”
The source added that Akhtar has offered Singh the part essayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in the original and he's already said yes to her. Kaif will also be seen in a fantastic action-packed role.
Mind you, although Akhtar has the rights, she will only take the basic idea from The Departed and adapt it to suit the Indian audience. Isn’t that exciting? We can already smell the trio cooking something special!
