ISLAMABAD:

An inspector and a head constable of the National Highways and Motorway Police were martyred while a sub-inspector was seriously injured while helping a motorist. NHMP had received a distress message of a motorist who was stranded in the middle of the road near Burhan Interchange on Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway due to a burst tyre. Motorway police officers rushed to the spot to help him. They kept yellow cones as warning signs at a distance so as to warn other motorists and started pushing the stranded vehicle to the kerb. However, a driver came speeding by, ignoring the warning signs crashed into the police officer. Inspector Amjad Ali died on the spot while Sub-Inspector Waheedullah and Chief Constable Akhtar Ali and the driver of the vehicle were seriously injured. They were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Hassanabdal and then to Pims where Akhtar Ali succumbed to his injuries. Waheedullah and the driver of the vehicle were under treatment at Pims. Inspector Amjad Ali was laid to rest at his hometown in Mansehra and Head Constable Akhtar Ali at Charbagh, Swat. NHMP Station Commander Shah Asad Khan, other motorway police officers and locals attended in large numbers.
