Kangana Ranaut and Pooja Bhatt lock horns on Twitter

‘Manikarnika’ star slammed Pooja's take on nepotism

Entertainment Desk July 10, 2020

Kangana Ranaut and Pooja Bhatt have been embroiled in a bitter Twitter battle over who the Queen actor owes her career to. Now, however, it seems that Kangana wants to hang up her arms, reported Hindustan Times.

Pooja, the daughter of film-maker Mahesh Bhatt, implied that Kangana’s debut in hit film Gangster was made possible thanks to her father’s banner, Vishesh Films. Commenting on the nepotism debate, she had tweeted, “There was a time when the Bhatts were accused of having something against established actors and made to feel inferior for only working with/launching newcomers and not chasing stars. And now, the same people play the nepotism card?”

She then mentioned Kangana, who has been extremely vocal about nepotism. In fact, she is credited with starting the whole debate in Bollywood. “As for Kangana Ranaut…she is a great talent. If not, she wouldn’t have been launched by Vishesh films in Gangster. Yes Anurag Basu discovered her, but Vishesh Films backed his vision and invested in the film. No small feat.”

After Pooja’s tweet, Kangana’s team took to Twitter to reply on the actor’s behalf. “Dear Pooja, Anurag Basu had keen eyes to spot Kangana’s talent. Everyone knows Mukesh Bhatt does not like to pay artists. To get talented people for free is a favour many studios do on themselves but that doesn’t give your father a license to throw chappals (shoes) at her, call her mad and humiliate her,” they said. “He also announced her ‘tragic end.’ Also, why was he so invested in Sushant Singh Rajput and Rhea Chakraborty’s relationship? Why did he announce his end too? Some of the questions you must ask him.”

Pooja then shared a video in response to Kangana’s tweets. The video is from back in the day, when Kangana was honoured with a Best Debut award for Gangster and she thanked Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt for it. “Guess videos lie too? Besides, it takes two to battle. I leave the denials and accusations to more evolved souls. I rather put forth facts!” she posted.

Seems like this is where Kangana and her team decided to close the argument, tweeting, “Pooja jee, Kangana is thankful to Vishesh Films for launching her but she wants outsiders to be treated better. She feels fortunate to find success in a world run by men but she wishes patriarchy ends.”

The battle between the two seems to have ended for the time-being, but with the nepotism debate still fresh all over Bollywood, one can expect it to light up again.
