PSP highlights water, power woes at APC
Agreeing with the declaration of the All Parties Conference convened by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) leaders called on Thursday for including the provision of clean drinking water to Karachiites through the immediate execution of K-IV bulk water project and ending K-Electric's monopoly in it.
PSP leaders stated that Karachiites were made to pay the highest power tariff in Pakistan but faced excessive load-shedding, overbilling and the risk of death due to electrocution amid rains.
They called for issuing licences to multiple power supply and distribution companies.
The leaders further stressed the importance of the 18th Amendment and pointed out that unless power and resources were devolved to the grassroots level, public issues would remain unresolved.
They also called for making the National Finance Commission conditional on the Provincial Finance Commission, so that the decision to transfer funds to the local government was not at the chief minister's discretion.
PSP leaders further said that wherever resources were discovered, 10 per cent of the share was spent on development works in the respective area. Hence, the people of Karachi were also entitled to 10 per cent of the city's revenue.
