KARACHI:

As the weather system prevailing over the city for the past few days took its leave, the first spell of monsoon rains in Karachi this year came to an end, with a lull expected in heavy rainfall for a few days.

The monsoon system shifted toward Pasni and Gwadar on Thursday afternoon, even as it left humidity and sultry weather in its wake. With the lack of sea breezes, the heat intensity appeared to be several degrees higher than the actual temperature, which was recorded at a maximum of 38.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, humidity went up to 82 per cent on Thursday morning.

Some areas of the metropolis may witness drizzle today (Friday), while the sea breezes are also expected to be fully restored.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department chief meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz, the next spell of monsoon rains is expected to hit the city between July 18 and July 20.
