Postings: LHC stops Secy from appointing EDOs

The order was issued on a petition filed by Punjab Government Schools Senior Staff Association’s president.

LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Friday suspended search committees constituted by the education secretary (schools) for posting of executive district officers (EDOs) and district education officers (DEOs) and sought a report on the matter.

The order was issued on a petition filed by Punjab Government Schools Senior Staff Association’s president Hafiz Abdul Nasir. The petitioner said that under the recruitment rules of 1987, the appointment of EDOs and DEOs fell in the district governments’ jurisdiction. He said that the notification authorising the Secretary (education) was unlawful. He said that that the provincial selection board approved senior teachers and officers to be appointed as DEOs and EDOs in BS-18 and Bs-19. Therefore, he said, there was no need for the search committees. After hearing the petitioner, the court suspended the impugned notification and sought a report and para wise comments from the secretary.
