The apex civic agency of the federal capital has received a bid of Rs4.656 million to improve the existing road infrastructure in Sector I-14.
This was disclosed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Tuesday as it opened bids submitted by various firms to complete the project. The bids were opened as part of the authority’s efforts to develop the neglected urban sectors of the federal capital, particularly the long-pending, low-income and industrial areas in the I-series of the city.
CDA officials on Tuesday said that a feasibility study had estimated the cost of the project at Rs8.126 million. However, the lowest bid it had received to complete the work was Rs4.656 million, or almost 47.4 per cent less than the estimated cost.
Officials added that under the project, damaged portions of streets and roads in all sub-sectors of Sector I-14 will be repaired and maintained.

Explaining the need of the project, the CDA official pointed out that Islamabad’s population had more than doubled in the past 20 years, from 0.805 million in 1997 to 2.006 million in 2017, and to accommodate these people, additional sectors need to be developed. He added that construction activities in Sector I-14 have been on the rise recently with allottees building their houses. Hence it was imperative to uplift the road infrastructure in the sector.
Earlier, the CDA had approved a sum of Rs210.552 million in January 2020 for supplying gas in Sector I-14.
