112 arrested for price gouging on essentials

The district administration also collected over Rs1 million in fines from shopkeepers

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad Capital Territory Administration arrested around 112 people and booked them in 24 first information reports (FIRs) for selling edible items at exorbitant rates amidst the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The district administration also collected over Rs1 million in fines from shopkeepers.

Data shared by the local administration showed that Shalimar and Potohar Assistant Commissioner (AC) Sidra Anwar registered 15 FIRs and arrested eight people, while Secretariat and Koral AC Asadullah booked 17 violators and registered four FIRs.

Similarly, 52 shopkeepers were held by Rural AC Abdullah besides registering two FIRs. Another 25 were nabbed by City AC Ghulam Chandio and an FIR was registered against them. Five people were arrested in the Industrial Area and two FIRs were lodged against them.
