ISLAMABAD:

As the city received its first monsoon showers, its apex civic authority said that it has opened bids for a project to build storm drains in Sector I-11/1 and I-12/1.

Officials of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Sunday said that the initial tender cost of the project was Rs80.645 million. However, due to healthy competition and transparency in the bidding process, CDA has received the lowest bid at 24.26 per cent below the estimated cost.

Hence, the drainage system will now be built for Rs61.08 million.

The CDA administration issued directions to complete all formalities at the earliest so that work on the project can commence without delay.

Under the project, a network of drains will be set up to drain water from roads and street of the sectors.

The project concept-I (PC-I) and PC-IV of developing Sector I-11 had been approved in a meeting of CDA’s development working party (DWP) last October. The project had been estimated to cost a total of Rs2.618 billion. After the project cost had been approved, the concerned formations were directed to fulfil all formalities so that work by the respective departments could be carried out simultaneously.

In this context, different departments, including the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) were approached for setting up a piped gas network in the area.

Furthermore, the CDA in a meeting of its board last November had approved the allocation of 18.6 Kanals of land for the construction of a 132-kilovolt grid station in Sector I-11/2 for the provision of electricity in the Sectors I-11 and I-12.

Last week, the CDA had awarded Niaz and Brothers an Rs1.128 billion contract for completing work on the first phase of development works in Sector I-15. The authority said that the firm won the contract after it had submitted a tender which was 25 per cent less than the estimated cost of completing work on the project.

Officials said that after issuing a ‘letter of acceptance’ earlier, a letter for the commencement of work on the project has also been issued.

They said that the NIT for the first phase of development works in Sector I-15 was Rs1.128 billion.

They added that after a transparent and healthy competition amongst the bidders, the final contract awarded was 25 per cent less than the estimated cost and that it is now expected to be completed for Rs862 million.
