RAWALPINDI:

The pre-monsoon showers that began Saturday morning and continued into the afternoon brought a much-awaited respite from scorching heat the residents of the twin cities were suffering for the ast few days.

Even after the showers were over, weather in the twin cities remained pleasant and the overcast skies saved people from the blistering July sunshine. Many people were seen enjoying the day by stepping out of their homes, going on long drives or visiting parks.

However, the power supply was interrupted in several areas and landline phones also became dead.

The downpour resulted in increase in water level in all three dams including Rawal, Simli, and Khanpur.

The flood control teams of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) also came in the field and continued monitoring low lying areas for possible dangers of flooding.

WASA Managing Director (MD) Raja Shaukat visited Nullah Leh and other nullahs passing through the garrison city.

Talking to the media, he said that WASA had deployed heavy machinery at different spots along Nullah Leh while the holidays of employees have also been suspended to prevent any untoward situation.
