‘Choking streams causes floods’

RWMC MD urges people to keep garbage outside their homes for authorities to pick them

RAWALPINDI:

Dumping construction waste and garbage in natural streams blocks water flow and cause urban floods, Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) Managing Director Manzoor Tarar said on Saturday.

He urged the people to refrain from dumping litter and other sorts of waste materials in the storm drains to avoid flooding during the monsoon season.

Tarar said that RWMC had completed cleaning all sewers and storm drains in the garrison city and assured the people that they would not have to deal with flooding this year.

He asserted that they have removed waste, garbage and cleared all such spots where rainwater could accumulate and become a source of dengue larvae breeding. Along with it, MD said that RWMC was also spraying disinfectants in different areas of the garrison city.

Tarar appealed the people to keep the garbage outside their homes and they will pick it up.

He added that dumping garbage and debris in storm drains causes a lot of difficulties as it chokes them.
