Court fire case faces prolonged delays
The case for a fire that erupted in the Karachi City Court storeroom has been facing delays for the last two years, while the storeroom has been re-established at the same - allegedly dangerous - location. The case has been delayed because witness statements have not yet been recorded. The case was registered on July 31, 2018, against three district in-charges, Turab Marri from Central district, Shakeel from South district and Sattar from East district, for their alleged negligence. According to sources, case properties for the South and East district courts will be transferred to the re-established storeroom soon, despite the location being declared dangerous by the police and other experts. They further pointed out that locally manufactured bombs and ammunition were kept in the storeroom. With the city court located in a densely populated area, these explosives posed a risk of going off at any time, especially given the hot weather.
