Robbers break into seven shops in Karachi

Escape with cash, mobile phones, licenced pistol, other valuables

KARACHI:

A gang of robbers broke the locks of seven shops in a market in Gulzar Colony, Korangi Industrial Area, in the wee hours of Wednesday, escaping with cash, mobile phones, SIM cards, a licenced pistol and other valuables.

The looted shops reportedly included a mobile phone shop, a medical store, a bakery and retail shops.

Upon being informed about the incident, the police rushed to the site collected fingerprints and other evidence from the site, launching an investigation into the looting.

According to reports from area residents, the same group of robbers also looted a clinic on Tuesday night.

When contacted, Korangi Industrial Area SHO Shiraz Khattak said that according to the statements given by the affected shopkeepers, there was around Rs150,000 to Rs200,000 in the shops, as well as mobile phones and other valuables that were stolen by the robbers. He added that the robbery took place at around 4.30am on Wednesday.

“It would be premature to say anything about the number of suspects involved at the moment,” he stated, adding that only one of the looted shops had a surveillance camera and footage from it was being sought.
