Ad-hoc medics unpaid for three months
At a time when healthcare workers across the world are risking their lives to save people from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), some 1,200 doctors who had been appointed on an ad-hoc basis in the province, have not been paid for the past three months.
This emerged as the Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) in a statement on Tuesday claimed that the government has not paid arrears to ad-hoc doctors for months now even though these doctors have been performing their duties diligently during a pandemic.
Due to complicated administrative procedures, PDA said that the doctors had little options but to keep on working without salaries. Explaining the issues, the PDA said that they include verification of their documents - a process which normally takes just 15 days but has been pending for the past three months due to the lockdown - imposed to curb the spread of the virus. The association added that these unpaid doctors were now struggling financially.
