OGRA increases LPG prices for July

One kg will now be available at Rs114 against Rs110 earlier

ISLAMABAD:

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) on Tuesday notified an increase in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by Rs4 per kg for July 2020.

The 11.8kg domestic cylinder will be available at Rs1,345.07 and commercial cylinder at Rs4,995. In July, LPG will be available at Rs114 per kg against Rs110 per kg earlier.

Following the end of an LPG extraction agreement between Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Jamshoro Joint Venture Limited (JJVL), LPG prices are expected to rise further in coming months due to a shortfall of 300 tons in the system. Owing to the demand and supply gap, dealers have not been selling LPG at the Ogra-notified price.

Meanwhile, Pakistan LPG Marketers Association has expressed concern over non-renewal of the LPG agreement and appealed to SSGC to make an arrangement with JJVL to bridge the gap of 300 tons of LPG.

In a letter addressed to the SSGC MD, the association said in the larger interest of the country, an arrangement between the two entities (SSGC and JJVL) may be made at the earliest so that the already fragile economic condition of the country could be saved from damage.

Association Chairman Farooq Iftikhar said, “We believe SSGC should have worked on enhancing local production rather than curtailing or holding at current levels of production.”
