Suspects had allegedly killed two ASIs at a picket
ISLAMABAD:
Police on Friday claimed to have two suspects believed to be involved in the fatal attack on Islamabad Police officials at a picket in Tarlai last month.
A police spokesperson said that early on Friday, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Islamabad Police conducted a joint operation in the Dhoke Qureshian area within the remits of the Golra police station.
As a squad of the Islamabad Police and CTD approached the suspected hideout, the suspects started firing at them and attempted to flee.
Police retaliated and managed to arrest two suspects, while their two accomplices managed to flee.
The suspects who were apprehended were identified as Sajjad alias Chocho Nosherwan and Nur Muhammad Nurme, both of whom are Afghan nationals. Guns, ammunition and grenades were recovered from their possession. Further investigations are underway.
IGP Aamir Zulfiqar Khan and Operations DIG Waqaruddin Syed have appreciated the performance of police teams.
ASI Mohsin Zafar and Head Constable Muhammad Sajjad were manning a picket at Chungi No 26 on May 26. They intercepted some suspicious people and tried to check their bag, however, the suspects fired at the policemen, killing them on the spot.
During the preliminary investigation, the suspects confessed to murdering ASI Mohsin Zafar and Head Constable Sajjad. They also admitted to attacking policemen performing duties near the Carriage Factory on IJP Road which had resulted in the death of two policemen including Sagheer Haider Saqlain and Khurram Shehzad apart from injuring Jehanzeb.
