A passenger train had a narrow escape on Saturday when an explosive device planted on the tracks in the suburbs of Quetta went off before the train passed the area, official sources said.
The Chiltan Express left the Quetta railway station for Faisalabad at 9:15 am and the bomb exploded when it reached the Darakhshan area in Saryab. The track was partially damaged. However, no casualties were reported. The train departed for Faisalabad two hours later after officials repaired the track.
Officials from the police and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) rushed to the site soon after the blast and cordoned off the area. Official sources said that a remote-controlled device had been found in District Sui of Dera Bugti and the BDS managed to defuse the five kilogrammes of explosives.
