KARACHI: Ethnic and politically linked violence in Karachi has killed 800 people so far this year, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan said Friday.

"About 800 people have been the victims of violent shootings in the last seven months," Zohra Yusuf, chairwoman of the HRCP, told AFP.

The HRCP previously said 490 people were killed in the first six months of the year and on Friday that another 300 people died in July.

"The figures compiled by our staff and the death toll for the last month confirmed by the police shows the number of victims of violence was not less than 300," Yusuf said.

The government has campaigned to end the clashes and deployed hundreds of additional police and paramilitary forces in the city, but the killings have continued with 58 people reported dead in five days alone this week.

tribute | 13 years ago | Reply When Musharraf was there.. things were better.. he knew how to put a lid on so many issues. Yes, he made some wrong decisions, but no one looks at his good only because of racism. ..because he's not punjabi or pathan etc. Get rid of feudalism and mafia. If anyone wants anything good for Pakistan, understand the evil in feudalism & the mafia and learn to unite. THERE IS UNITY IN DIVERSITY! Urdu-speaking built the nation, punjabis carried the flag, pathans are our strength.. we are strong as one. The One who willed for this country to be, willed for sindis,balochis,punjabis,urdu-speaking,mahajirs,pathans,etc etc..He chose us to be a nation! We are brothers anyway, learn to love one another and feel the other's pain. If one is hurt, the rest is damaged too!

Yup, these 800 were not chickens that were slaughtered but humans. Allah wont help if we don't help ourselves. Karachi has been the swat but we never realized it.
