248 suspects held, stolen goods recovered in Islamabad

Police claim to have arrested 31 people for carrying illegal arms

ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad Police have arrested 248 suspects over the past week and recovered stolen items worth more than Rs12.2 million from them, including jewellery, cars and bikes, a police spokesperson said.

The official said that a total of 32 cases of robbery, burglary and theft were solved and 32 suspects were arrested. As many as 44 absconders were also held during this period.

Moreover, he said that the police held 72 suspects for their involvement in bootlegging and drug peddling. Officials recovered 10.225 kilogrammes of hashish, 2.45 kgs of heroin, 17 grammes of crystal methamphetamines (also known as ice) and 307 bottles of wine from them.


Police also arrested 31 people for carrying unlicenced or illegal weapons, recovering 30 pistols, a dagger and 455 rounds of ammunition from them

Meanwhile, 69 other suspects, which were wanted by the police for their alleged involvement in different criminal cases, were also apprehended during this time.

DIG Operations Waqaruddin Syed said that criminal elements will not be spared and those involved in such acts will face action as per the law. Moreover, he said that a massive crackdown is currently underway against anti-social elements. He urged citizens to cooperate with the police in curbing criminal activities.
