A police official was killed while five of his colleagues were injured when their vehicle overturned on Friday. They had been travelling towards the Northern Bypass after receiving news of another police official's death in an encounter with suspects.

The police van overturned due to speeding, killing sub-inspector Ghulam Hussain and injuring five other police officials, including Surjani Town's female SHO Sharafat Khan.

According to the police, the team had been heading to the scene of a police encounter in which Constable Irfan had been shot dead in an exchange of fire with suspects. The deceased and injured were taken to a hospital for medico-legal formalities and treatment respectively.

Hussain and Irfan were both laid to rest on Saturday. No case has been registered while further investigation is underway.

Attending Hussain's funeral, Karachi police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon said that the city's police officials had rendered great sacrifices to establish peace and security in the metropolis.
