ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reaffirmed its support for the China's new national security legislation for its special administrative region saying Hong Kong is a part of China, and it is important for China to safeguard its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and protect the lives of its citizens.

China says the legislation will aim to tackle secession, subversion, terrorism and foreign interference in the region.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui made the remarks while responding to a question about China's national security legislation for China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to better implement "one country, two systems" and for peace and prosperity of Hong Kong.

"We reaffirm that matters related to Hong Kong are China's internal affairs. We believe it is important to uphold international law and adhere to the basic norm of non-interference," Farooqui said at the weekly press briefing.

"Pakistan's position on Hong Kong is consistent and clear. Pakistan adheres to one-China policy," she said.
