KARACHI:

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced that it has recovered Rs1.07 billion from residential, industrial and commercial consumers in a drive against defaulters and gas theft in Sindh and Balochistan.

“As part of a forceful recovery campaign, SSGC teams carried out disconnections in May and June for non-payment of gas bills and gas thefts and in the process recovered Rs252 million from domestic consumers and Rs755 million from industrial and commercial consumers during these two months,” it said. SSGC pointed out that all such defaulting consumers were notified prior to disconnections, adding that the company would continue to take action to recover dues from defaulters and curb gas theft in future as well.

The campaign against defaulters and gas theft was launched following the directives of Petroleum Minister Dr Asim Hussain as the country continues to face gas shortages even in summer, leading to supply outages for compressed natural gas stations and industries.
