Sweet deal: Diabetics can fast too

A patient who takes three doses of insulin in a day can fast if their doctor permits them to do so

KARACHI:
The insulin-dependent patients (type II diabetics), who take one dose in 24 hours, can fast after consulting with their physicians, advised Prof. Zaman Shaikh from the National Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology at the Dow University of Health Sciences. “A patient who takes three doses of insulin in a day can fast if their doctor permits them to do so,” he said. A consultant at the Kidney Centre added that diabetic patients can fast but must take their prescribed medicines at Sehri and Iftari.
