LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge on Thursday directed the investigation officer (IO) to get a forensic laboratory to analyse whether the signatures on dishonoured cheques amounting to Rs2.5 million were theatre actress Saima Khan’s or not.

ADSJ Hamid Hassan directed the Gulshan-i-Ravi IO to produce the lab report on August 9.

The judge was hearing a petition by Mazhar Hussain Khokhar against Khan for allegedly giving him three cheques of Rs2.5 million that bounced.

On Thursday Khan, who is on interim bail, denied the allegation. She said that Khokar had stolen these cheques from her and had signed them himself.

Khokar’s counsel said that the cheques had Khan’s real signatures and were not bogus. He informed the court that Khan had given his client the cheques in front of some people. Khan reiterated that she had not signed the cheques and that the petitioner wanted to ruin her reputation.

The court directed the IO to produce the report of the forensic laboratory to confirm whether or not the signatures were real. The hearing was adjourned till August 9.

Earlier, Khokhar had registered an FIR against Attia Bano alias Khan saying that on February 23, 2009, he rented a double story house from Ansar Raza and moved in to it. He said a few weeks later, Khan approached him and asked him to vacate the house. She told him that she was the owner of the house and wanted to sell it. He said instead of vacating the house, he bought it for Rs2.5 million.

Later, he said. Khan demanded the house back. He said she sent some police officials who threw him out of the house.

He said he asked Khan to return him the money he had paid for the house after which she gave him three cheques of the Prime Commercial Bank (Ltd), Gulshan-i-Ravi Branch. All three cheques were dishonoured by the bank, he said.
