Coronavirus claims 33 more lives in Sindh

Recovery ratio climbs to 50 per cent, 2,287 fresh cases reported

Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah said on Tuesday that the province saw 2,287 fresh coronavirus cases overnight, while 33 more people succumbed to the virus.

Shah said that so far, 57,868 people had tested positive for the coronavirus un Sindh and the death toll had soared to 886.

He further disclosed 633 patients were said to be in critical condition, of them as many as 109 have been put on ventilators.

As many as 1,436 people were diagnosed with the contagious disease in the provincial capital, including 449 in East district, 387 in South district, 260 in Central district, 113 in Malir, 91 in Korangi and 86 in West district.


Meanwhile, Hyderabad saw 85 new cases, Ghotki 72, Badin 40, Larkana 33, Jamshoro 23, Shikarpur 21, Naushero Feroze 18, Sanghar and Dadu 15 each, Khairpur and Sukkur 13 each, Matiari and Kashmore 11 each, Mirpurkhas nine, Jacobabad eight, Qambar-Shahdadkot seven, Thatta four, Tando Allahayar and Umerkot three each and Sujawal and Tando Mohammad Khan one each.

The chief minister urged people, particularly the citizens of Karachi, to observe standard operating procedures as various union councils of East, Korangi, West, South, Malir, and Central districts had been declared coronavirus hotspots.

He said that 27,737 Covid-19 patients were under treatment in the province, of whom 26,170 were in home isolation, 1,498 were being treated at different hospitals and 69 were quarantined at isolation centres. Moreover, 1,230 patients had recuperated as of Tuesday, which took the total number of recovered patients to 29,245- 50 per cent of the total cases.

"It [recovery rate] had dropped a few days back to 48 per cent and now it has picked up again due to better health services," he said.
