Annushka Sharma served legal notice over 'Paatal Lok'

This time around, the show is accused of defaming the Sikh community

Amazon Prime series Paatal Lok is getting into one controversy after another. The show's producer, Bollywood star Anushka Sharma along with Amazon Prime Videos on Monday got a notice from the Punjab and Haryana High Court on a petition saying the web series Paatal Lok had defamed the Sikh community, reported News 18

The notice of motion was issued to the Union of India and 15 other respondents by the bench of Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi.

The petitioner has objections to episode number three called A History of Violence that was set in a village in Punjab.

"The respondents have purposely and maliciously within intent of creating communal disharmony and caste-based clashes have shown two communities in a bad light," said petitioner-advocate Gurdeepinder Singh Dhillon.

The show has received much backlash from various communities due to it venturing in societal taboos. Earlier on the team got in legal trouble with the Gorkha community for allegedly hurting Nepali sentiments.

BJP MLA Nandkishore Gurjar also has beef with Paatal Lok since his picture has been used in one of its sequences.

Nandkishore believes that the series has put him in the bad light while promoting communal disharmony. A complaint has been filed against Anushka under the National Security Act by Gurjar. Taking things a step further, the MLA has asked Anushka’s husband and Indian cricket superstar, Virat Kohli, to divorce her for producing Paatal Lok.
