PESHAWAR: At least 1,560 seats from basic pay scale (BPS) grade 17 to 19, in secondary and higher secondary schools of the province are still lying vacant, The Express Tribune has learnt.

Sources said that owing to the alleged laxity of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Elementary and Secondary Education Department (ESED), promotions of several teachers and principals have been hanging in balance for long.

Government data shows that some 110 seats in BPS-19, for both men and women, are lying vacant whereas 150 seats in BPS-18 are currently empty.

Another 1,300 seats in BPS-17 are yet to be filled by the provincial education department.

Senior K-P ESED officials said that they had directed the K-P Education Directorate to prepare and send seniority lists in March so that the promotion process can proceed. However, they have yet to receive the lists even two months after the deadline.
