Swara Bhaskar still wants IPL team to apologise to Sammy

The cricketer meanwhile has maintained that it's not his job to 'force' anyone to say sorry

Daren Sammy's recent revelation about unknowingly being subjected to racial slurs while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has caused a stir on social media. According to Sammy, his SRH used to call him 'Kalu' during his stint with the team during 2013-14,  the meaning of which he wasn't aware of at the time.

Following his allegations, Sammy said that he had a rather ‘interesting conversation’ with one of the players from SRH and he was now looking to focus on the positives that can come out from the episode, reported Indian Express.

However, Bollywood actor Swara Bhaskar wants the SRH squad to apologise for their actions regardless." Dear Daren Sammy. if someone used the N word at a black person and said they “operated from a place of love” what would you say? Same with word ‘Kaalu’ and it’s variations. And team members of Sun Risers. Show some decency and spine say sorry to Daren officially! " Bhasker tweeted.

To this Sammy had responded by assuring Bhaskar that he in no way condoned what was said to him. "Don’t get me wrong I’m not condoning what was done/said. I’m saying let’s use this opportunity to educate each other so it doesn’t happen again. One can only apologize if he/she feels wrong about something. I’m confident&proud to be black. That will never change."

The Bollywood actress replied to his tweet saying, “Totally agree Daren! Shows generosity & grace on your part. But it’s important that your teammates own up to their action, even if they didn’t mean it- or didn’t realise- they still played a racist exchange. As you say education- realisation and owning up to one’s actions."

The back and forth ended on Sammy highlighting that it wasn't on him "to force anyone to apologise".
