In a candid intervention that cuts through the noise surrounding a simmering celebrity spat, veteran actor and filmmaker Reema Khan has weighed in on the Meera-Resham controversy, while delivering a broader critique of how Pakistan's media engages with its artists.

Speaking during a recent appearance on a private television programme, Reema - long regarded as one of the country's most recognisable film personalities - expressed unease over what she described as the increasingly intrusive and, at times, disrespectful tone adopted by interviewers.

She singled out the line of questioning directed at Meera in a recent interview, calling it "disheartening" and indicative of a wider problem in the industry. "Our podcasters and hosts insult artists during interviews," she said.

She argued that conversations frequently veer away from an artist's craft and instead fixate on personal lives. According to her, this approach not only diminishes the dignity of the guest but also erodes the credibility of the host.

Reema said that artists in Pakistan are often undervalued, with their professional contributions overshadowed by sensationalised narratives. She maintained that performers - regardless of gender - deserve to be treated with respect and judged primarily on their work.

The actor warned that the current trend of framing interviews like confrontational current affairs segments risks damaging the broader cultural landscape and discouraging meaningful artistic discourse.

Turning to Resham, Reema struck a more conciliatory note, praising her as an articulate and graceful speaker, while extending prayers for her wellbeing. At the same time, she offered measured advice, urging her to rely less on hearsay and instead assess situations independently.

Reema, who rose to prominence with 'Bulandi' and delivered a string of popular films including 'Koi Tujh Sa Kahan' and 'Nikah', is currently visiting Pakistan and appearing across multiple television platforms.
