2,262 new virus cases, 23 new deaths reported in Sindh

As the province's Covid-19 tally crossed 50,000 cases, with 2,262 new cases emerging in the last 24 hours, Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah insisted on Saturday that collective efforts were needed to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Revealing that the new cases emerged after 10,081 tests were conducted, Shah stated that the total number of cases in Sindh had reached 51,518. He added that so far 287,135 tests have been conducted across the province.
The CM further stated that 23 more patients lost their lives to the deadly contagion during this time, pushing the death toll to 816. This now meant the provincial death rate is 1.6 per cent, he added.

He also disclosed that at present, 26,315 patients were undergoing treatment, of which 24,525 were isolated at their homes, 1,698 at hospitals and 92 at isolation centres. Moreover, he said, 539 patients were in critical condition, including 69 patients who had been put on ventilators. Shah also shared that the patients in home-isolation are being treated by doctors through telemedicine.
On a positive note, however, Shah stated that 1,274 patients had recuperated, bringing the number of recovered patients in the province to 24,387 with a 47.4 per cent recovery rate.
Breakup of cases
Shah also revealed that with 1,517 positive tests, more than half of the new cases have emerged in Karachi. This included 530 in East district, 412 in South district, 180 in Central district, 170 in West district, 116 in Malir district and 109 in Korangi.
Meanwhile, 106 new cases were detected in Larkana, 86 in Hyderabad, 55 in Sukkur, 52 in Ghotki, 30 in Khairpur, 28 in Mirpurkhas, 23 Shikarpur, 12 in Jamshoro, eight each in Badin, Naushero Feroze and Sanghar, seven in Tando Mohammad Khan, five in Dadu, three each in Shaheed Benazirabad and Sujawal, two apiece in Jacobabad abd Qambar-Shahdadkot, and one each in Kashmore, Tando Allahyar and Thatta.
