KARACHI:
Policing in Sindh's border areas, especially the tri-junction border areas, must be made more effective and smuggling should be controlled, stated Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar.

In a meeting held to discuss the current law and order situation in Larkana on Friday, Mahar issued directives to ensure stability in the region.

He directed police officials to strengthen their links with the relevant agencies to dissuade crime, trace criminals and penalise them.

"An extremely efficient plan should be prepared to ensure the safety of human lives, as well as property during the upcoming large-scale events including Eidul Azha and Muharram," insisted Mahar, urging officials to consult all the stakeholders involved, including law enforcement agencies, regarding the strategies, course of action and other aspects of the security plans that need to be determined. He added that their suggestions should be prioritised.

Covid-19 and SOPs

Mahar also took the opportunity to address the precautionary measures being taken during the Covid-19 pandemic. He directed police officials to ensure that the Sindh government's standard operating procedures were being implemented at every level in the province.

The provincial police chief further asked the Larkana police to form a team of Elite Force officials who would be responsive in case of an emergency.
