According to sources, the actor had contracted coronavirus and was under treatment when he left for his eternal abode due to cardiac arrest.
Talking to The Express Tribune, actor and director Amjad Chaudhary recalled fond memories of Malik while he starred in Guesthouse. “There were five to six main characters in the Guesthouse and around a 100 episode. Tariq Malik remained among the top artists and was one of the main reasons for the success of it. According to me, he was the main comedian and entertaining factor for the public as his role was pure and Malik performed it very well,” he said.
Malik starred alongside the hugely popular Afzal Khan, widely known as John (Jan) Rambo, and while he was a main attraction as a sweeper, Malik held his own. “Although Rambo was also great and famous in the role of a sweeper but Malik’s character as Murad was also extremely popular among TV viewers. There was a variety in his acting and he appeared in a different style in every episode which impressed public,” added Chaudhary.
Chaudhary also shared that Malik was still involved in acting and had recently worked in a play that Chaudhary had written, titled Sangi. He essayed the role of his father, which has now proven to be the last performance of his career.
Director Asma Butt also lauded his contribution to the Potohar region where he hailed from. “Tariq Malik was one of the biggest TV actor belonging to the Potohar region. Besides Guesthouse, he also worked in a lot of dramas in the Potohar language and did excellent work in his whole career,” she said.
Here’s extending prayers to his family and friends in this difficult time.
