‘NAB working as sovereign body’
Punjab Governor says the ongoing inquiries against the government officials were prof
LAHORE:
Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar has said the ongoing inquiries against the government officials were a prof that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was working as an independent and neutral body.
The governor expressed these views while speaking at a press conference along with Haji Muhammad Ramazan and others at the Governor House on Wednesday.
“The government does not believe in political retaliation against anyone, including the opposition. All legal requirements regarding the sugar scandal will also be met. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, transparency and merit will be ensured in all respects,” he said.
“Coronavirus has become a big challenge for Pakistan. The people did not take the virus seriously which is why the situation has worsened. The government is working with all the provinces to check Covid-19.”
Sarwar said the virus could be defeated only by taking precautionary measures.
“It is the clear policy of the government that those who harm the national exchequer will be dealt with as per the Constitution and the law. The NAB is an independent and sovereign body.”
Responding to a question, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said that he had spoken to Fabio Massimo Castaldo, Vice President of the European Parliament, who was speaking out for the rights of Kashmiris and against Indian atrocities in the European Parliament.
