KARACHI:
The federal government on Tuesday decided to extend the scope of passive immunisation plasma therapy to treat the Covid-19 patients in the country.

For this purpose, the authorities invited the head of National Institute of Blood Diseases (NIBD) Dr Tahir Shamsi to the federal capital to discuss the results and treatment through passive immunisation.

Dr Shamsi met Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health Dr Zafar Mirza and other high-ranking officials at the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

The NIBD chief also held a detailed meeting with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt Gen Mohammad Afzal.

The meeting deliberated on the results of clinical trials initiated for the treatment of coronavirus patients through plasma therapy.

4 Covid patients recover after plasma therapy


The NIBD chief, while talking to The Express Tribune, observed that he had a detailed discussion with the NDMA chairman on the treatment of Covid-19 patients through plasma therapy and the availability of facilities for the said therapy in the country.

Dr Shamsi said it was decided to extend the scope of plasma therapy programme throughout the country, which would work under the NIBD.

He said that the NDMA chairman would provide all necessary facilities to the NIBD for the purpose.

The NIBD chief also revealed that a helpline was being launched for the plasma donors.

Quoting the NDMA chairman, Dr Shamsi said that all information pertaining to the plasma donors will be kept secret.

He said the NDMA chairman had requested that all those recovering from Covid-19 should donate their plasma.
